INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF PETROLEUM ENGINEERS ORGANIZE EDUCATIONAL DAY ON CHEMISTRY IN OIL AND GAS FOR BAHRAIN SCHOOLS

The National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and the International Society of Petroleum Engineers organized in collaboration with the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) an educational oil and gas science day for secondary schools in the Kingdom  of Bahrain on Wednesday and Thursday, 8 and 9 March 2017 at BAPCO Club, with extensive participation by teachers of chemistry in government and private secondary schools (more than 60 male and female chemistry teachers) and more than 200 male and female students of third secondary school grade from the various schools of Bahrain.

 

The event was organized on the sideline of the 20th Middle East Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (MEOS 2017) which was hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain during the period 6 to 9 March under the generous patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister. The event was organized in recognition of the role of the science male and female teachers in the various schools of the Kingdom in delivering and facilitating acquisition of science by male and female students thanks to using the best educational and laboratory methods and tools and the pioneering role which they do play in honing the skills and enhancing the expertise of the outputs of the educational process.

 

The purpose of this function which was organized over two successive days was to equip male and female teachers with the most recent laboratory experiments used in the oil and gas industry by employing graphic explanations that  would enable and deliver the information to the students in an attractive and easy manner for comprehension eliminating complications, in addition to acquainting them with the importance of chemistry and science in general in the oil industry, besides inspiring and attracting male and female students .

 

One more purpose of this event, which accompanied MEOS 2017 conference and exhibition was to strengthen and fortify the tangible abilities with the most recent laboratory experiments in science and especially in chemistry, considering its close affinity and relationship with the gas, oil and petrochemical industries, in addition to equipping male and female teachers, as well as male and female students, with the knowledge and opportunity to exchange experiences with the organizing agencies specialized in this field and an opportunity to exchange them with professionals in this vital and important field, expand their horizons, enrich the educational and scientific outputs and instigate them to continue and pursue their specialized study up to the university stage and eventually join the labour market of the oil, gas and other related fields.

 

Engineer Hafidh Al-Qassab, the Refining General Manager in Bahrain Petroleum Company and Dr. Hasan Al-Fardan, Head of Promotion and Conferences, Mr. Ahmad Abdulla Al-Haddad, Promotion and Conferences Specialist, and a number of young engineers from Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) spoke in and enriched the discussion with their experiences in this vital field and transferred their experiments to the attendees and participants in this important event.

 

The function also reviewed and explored several laboratory experiments for the most recent new science and chemistry developments that are used in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, in addition to several other experiments in a scientific and educational setting, whose results were discussed with teacher mates and the with students.

 

Then, the participants in this event moved on to a field tour of the refining plant of the Bahrain Petroleum Company, which served as a good opportunity to get acquainted with and have a close look into the oil industry, pose questions to the specialists, obtain the necessary explanations that would help in explaining scientific subjects in a school setting. They expressed their unmitigated happiness for having participated in this function, which expanded and enhanced the scope of their knowledge, honed their skills and boosted their specialized efficacy in this field.

 

On its part, NOGA expressed appreciation of total satisfaction with the positive cooperation with the Society of Petroleum Engineering, Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) and the Ministry of Education, which cooperation yielded affirmative results and realization of the key objectives sought by all parties.
