20th Middle East Oil and Gas Conference (MEOS 2017) opens

On behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil, opens on Monday evening, 6 March 2017, the 20th Middle East Oil and Gas Conference (MEOS 2017). The conference was organized by the International Society of Petroleum Engineers and United Business Media (UBM) and its Arab Expo Department in collaboration with the National Oil and Gas Authority under the slogan "Promotion of the Industry through Operational Innovation and Excellence".

 

His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Minister of Oil, expressed his thanks to His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, for his Royal Highness' constant and steady support for this event since its first launch in 1979 and throughout its 38 years of history. He also expressed thanks and appreciation to the International Society of Petroleum Engineers, United Business Media (UBM) and its Arab Expo Department and the Head of the conference steering committee, members of the committee, the sponsoring companies and all participants in MEOS 2017.

 

His Excellency the Minister highlighted the lofty status of the oil industry across the global economy as crude oil is regarded as an extremely important and strategic commodity and the paramount and key source of the international energy mix as well as the source used in all industrial activities.

 

His Excellency the Minister pointed out the fact that the Bahraini Government spares no effort and is prepared to walk the extra mile in the quest for conservation of energy and is working hard to develop and promote its petroleum industry by executing a number of pioneering projects in the oil and gas industry sector, which is living through the execution of several projects designed to promote the national economy.

 

The inauguration of the conference was attended by many specialists in the oil and gas sector and oil industry this year, which fact has enriched and fortified the discussions and inputs which took place during the events and sessions of the conference, thereby enabling exploration of the challenges that the oil industry may encounter over the upcoming decades. The discussion also covered the need for proper exploration of the oil resources in a way that would enable sustainable development and uninterrupted development plans notwithstanding global oil prices fluctuations in international oil markets.

 

The challenges confronting the oil and gas sector include lack of skilled human resources. It is very essential that the continuous human resources investment sector must guarantee that the industry be provided with sufficient number of engineers and skilled technicians. Therefore, the issues to be raised and discussed in the conference include the need of this sector for human resources.

 

Engineer Amin Hasan Al-Nasser, Saudi Aramco's President and Chief Executive Officer, and Nabil bin Ibrahim Al-Afaliq, Senior Petroleum Engineer and Head of the Executive Committee of MEOS 2017, and Mr. DARSI SIBADI, Chairman of the International Petroleum Engineering Society were keynote speakers in the conference.

 

During the opening celebration, His Excellency the Minister of Petroleum honoured the heads of the different steering committees of MEOS conference across its history and who played great role and exerted positive efforts at the time they headed the steering committees of the Middle East Oil and Gas Conference (MEOS) since its first launch in 1979 in Bahrain. The parties honoured included engineer Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi, the Advisor at the Royal Bureau and Ex-Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in the Sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who headed the steering committee of the Middle East Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition in 1983.
